August 2019 Update – New Zealand Ride Sharing Services

August 2019 Uber, Ola, Zoomy Update for New Zealand

Uber-Christchurch Uber-Christchurch

The New Zealand passenger ride sharing landscape continues to change. Whether you’re a driver, or rider, change happens – often you can blink and miss it. Uber, Ola, Zoomy and other taxi / cab / domestic ride sharing apps are all introducing new features, new pricing, or new services. If you’re going to maximise your Ola savings, Zoomy discounts, or Uber coupons or promotions, then you’ve really got to keep up with the play. I use Uber, Zoomy and Ola in Auckland and Wellington all the time. These services are also available in Christchurch. How long will be it be until they’re available outside of our main centres? I don’t think that’s too far away.

Uber has been heavily promoting its security features, and now hides passenger and driver phone number details from each other. I’ve found it’s also got much better at estimating your fare up front, and the Uber rides I’ve taken have been basically to the cent of the initial quote… that’s great, makes it easy to budget and compare one ride sharing service to another.

Ola continues to offer great discounts – especially for new riders, and for airport drop offs. You can use the great coupons / links on this Late Deals NZ website to access Ola discounts, and also Uber discounts, and Zoomy discounts. Get one of each and you’ve got $30+ of FREE taxi rides. Ola is promoting itself on TV and Youtube these days, quite heavily.

Zoomy continues to be a great choice for New Zealand ride sharing enthusiasts. They charge much lower commission than Uber for drivers, and the company is based in New Zealand. Tax is paid in New Zealand – great for the economy. It’s a win win for Zoomy, Zoomy drivers, and Zoomy riders. I continue to like Zoomy for its coverage – especially in Wellington. Auckland coverage can be a little hit and miss, as many drivers have moved to Uber or Ola for ongoing work coverage… time will tell if this changes.

There seems to be a growing number of drivers working multiple apps at the same time – e.g. driving for Zoomy, Uber, and Ola at once. That’s ok… but I get brassed off when a driver on say an Uber ride accepts a Zoomy ride… it says arrival in 3 minutes, then you see the car on the app driving in a different direction, and it becomes 10 minutes… don’t be afraid to report this, or give low star reviews. It’s a breach of the driver’s terms of service – they shouldn’t accept a job whilst they still have one in progress.

You’re getting a cheap ride with Uber, Ola or Zoomy in New Zealand compared to typical New Zealand taxi services. But it’s important that the quality of the ride is as you expect.

Use the coupons on this Late Deals website to save you money: our New Zealand Uber coupons, Ola coupons, and Zoomy coupons are available to all new customers, and you can get free Wellington or Auckland or Christchurch taxi rides, Wellington or Christchurch or Auckland ride credit, or Wellington or Auckland or Christchurch ride discounts. Try them all!
