Uber-Auckland

Uber has been available in Auckland for a year or two now, and it’s been a real proponent of change in the Auckland taxi / passenger services market.  The competition that Uber has brought has been fantastic for Auckland consumers, bringing the price per km down to around $1.35 (at current time of writing) against taxi competitors charging $2.80 – $3.50 per km.  Additionally, the flagfall or initial charge (base fare) on Uber in Auckland is just $1.30 – some competitors charge $3 or more! That’s a huge saving overall on your Auckland taxi transportation costs. An Auckland Uber standard vehicle, like an UberX, will get you anywhere you need to be in Auckland, 24 hours a day and night.  It’s always a comfortable ride around Auckland, due to Uber’s policy of having late model vehicles for all drivers.  You might want to be picked up from Sky City Casino in Auckland, and taken to The Brickworks at Lynnmall in New Lynn.  A fare like that would typically be around $18 – $22, based on an approximate 12km distance, time to travel, and traffic levels.

The number of Auckland Uber drivers is increasing over time, and as the prices continue to come down, more and more drivers seem to be on Auckland roads.  All Auckland suburbs are serviced.  I’ve never had a problem finding an Uber at short notice in central Auckland suburbs, or on the North Shore.  I’ve sometimes had to wait a few minutes in West Auckland (areas like Glen Eden or Oratia), but generally this has been late at night.  Daytime Auckland services seem to be well covered by Uber.
